You can use ecolabels to help you make green choices.
Our market research indicates that there are over 500,000 ecolabelled products on the market right now, and that that pool of green products continues to grow at a rapid rate.
Many of the retailers that sell these products will soon be found here at Ecolabelling.org.
Understanding our data:
Plowing through the information on Ecolabelling.org can seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be. For example, we prioritise the following metrics and recommend that you do as well:
1. Year established: i.e. when was the standard created? Older standards are more likely to have withstood the test of public scrutiny.
2. Verification and audit: i.e. how is compliance with the standard monitored? The more frequent and independent the better.
3. Standard Criteria: i.e. how detailed are the criteria a product needs to meet in order to obtain this label?
Other indicators, like the type of organisation behind the label, how the standard is created and how often it is reviewed, and the number of products certified, can also help you evaluate the efficacy of a given label.
