The aims of VISIT are:

- Promotion of and support to sustainable tourism development
- Promotion of its full members and their certified products
- Promotion of certification for sustainability in tourism in compliance with the VISIT standards
- Protection and further development of the VISIT standards for tourism certification schemes
- Support the mutual recognition, the co-operation and exchange of information, experience and expertise among the members, as well as other expressed members’ interests
- Support activities between members and stakeholders
- Development and protection of the VISIT name and concept
